The Third Annual African Solidarity Conference An Update Details will be posted in due course. We regret any inconveniences. The Second Annual African Solidarity Conference An Update On August 11, 2001, the Africa Solidarity Council, Inc. hosted its Second Annual African Solidarity Conference at Howard University in Washington, D.C. The purpose of the conference was to commemorate the 101st anniversary of the founding of Pan-Africanism Movement and to use the opportunity to reaffirm the call for unity, solidarity, and cooperation among peoples of the African race and to continue on the path of a rebirth of that "new" Pan-Africanism Movement that will engage the African in the achievement of social modernization of African society and the realization of African unity on a continental scale both politically, socially, and economically. The conference date was shifted from July to August because of travel difficulties. July is the birth-month of Pan-Africanism and we will strive to maintain the month of July as the month for our annual solidarity conference. The theme of this year's conference was "Building Solidarity Among Peoples of the African Race". The conference had its share of difficulties. It was affected by a short planning time, major travel glitches that affected the conference keynote speaker, Ms. Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, and her team, and a bad stormy weather, all leading to low registration rates and a significant financial loss to the organization. As such, the much-needed fundraising goal to support the children of the war in Sierra Leone and the children infected and/or affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa was not realized. More so, this loss has caused major strain on the organization and poses a threat to the ability of the Africa Solidarity Council, Inc. to further its mission and help improve the quality of life for Africans here in the United States as well as in Africa. Your interest and support of the Africa Solidarity Council, Inc. is greatly appreciated. In addition, we need your financial support to ensure a solid future of the organization and further our mission to make friends with Africans, including Africans in the Diaspora, and to rebuild trust in the process for the eventual rebuilding of our Africa. We hope we can count on you among the group of people who care about Africa and its people. The First Annual African Solidarity Conference An Update Details will be posted in due course. We regret any inconveniences.
